Presidents of development associations in Bafut Subdivision have identified lack of potable water, deplorable road network, insufficient health units and personnel, inadequate teaching staff, overcrowded classrooms, lack of laboratory equipment and the absent of electricity in some parts of Bafut as some of the problems retarding the development of the Subdivision.
The Presidents of the associations presented the problems to the Member of Parliament for Bafut-Tubah, Hon. Wilfred Naamukong Fusi, and Mayor Able Langsi Ngwasoh, during their tour to the 57 villages that make up the Bafut Subdivision.
The tour by the two politicians was to thank the people for voting them into the National Assembly and the Council respectively, during the September 30, 2013 elections.
At each stop, Hon. Fusi, and Mayor Langsi donated corrugated iron sheets to schools, bags of rice, cartoons of soap, salts, cooking oil, toiletries and financial assistance to the development associations.
Speaking at the occasion,the Chiefs and representatives of the internal and external elites expressed gratitude to the Mayor and Parliamentarian for their efforts in road maintenance, electricity extension to some parts of the Subdivision and the provision of desks, construction of classrooms and potable water in semi-urban centres of Bafut, but said this was not enough to meet the needs of the people.
Responding to the litany of worries expressed by the population, the elected officials said “we have come to thank and commune with you one year after you voted us into office.We are aware that what we have been able to provide in the domain of health, education and roads have not been enough, but we are bent on ensuring that Bafut Subdivision, emerges before other villages in Cameroon.
"We don’t go about making promises, we tackle problems on the spot and together, we seek for solutions to those that are dicey.Development needs are, and shall continue to surface daily.The expectations are high. We are equal to the task.”
According to the people’s representatives, the three weeks tour was not only meant to donate food items, but to identify urgent needs and provide solutions and “to also let our people live in peace.
It is very unfortunate that most Bafut people believe in Court cases that is draining their hard earned money. So, the strong message we brought is for our people to withdraw all Court cases and go for peaceful out of Court settlement.
At the Catholic Hospital for persons with disabilities like in Mankwi, Mankaanikong, Mbebili, Fonya, Agyiaty, Bawum and other villages, Langsi and Fusi were thrilled by the population with songs and dance to the admiration of their guests.
