Barely a day after a Guarantee Express Bus Company 70-seat vehicle on November 19, 2015, killed six passengers in an accident in Kon Yambetta village, 36 km from Bafia in the Mbam and Inoubou Division of the Centre Region, tragedy again struck in the area. A Toyota Corolla saloon car travelling from Yaounde to Bafoussam on Friday, November 20, 2015, knocked down and killed four students in Balamba village, some 36 km from Bafia, the divisional headquarters.
According to the Commander of the Bafia Mobile Gendarmerie Road Safety Unit, ‘Adjudant chef-major’ Ntobuku Fidelis, the accident happened at 3.30 pm as the students, aged between 12 and 15, were returning from school. The victims, two each from Government High School, Balamba and Government Technical College, CETIC, Balamba, were killed when the car, apparently over-speeding, left the highway and crushed them on the pavement.
Three other students who were injured in the accident were rushed to hospital while the four corpses were kept in the Ombessa District Hospital Mortuary, Ntobuku Fidelis explained. Meanwhile, Wandji Nana Alain Valerie, the driver of the Toyota Corolla with registration number CE 544 ES and all three other passengers on board did not sustain any injuries. Wandji Nana Alain Valerie, ‘Adjudant chef-major’ Ntobuku Fidelis disclosed, is a driver by trade.
