Announced by President Paul Biya during his visit to the North West Region in December, 2010, the Bamenda Thermal Plant was later declared good for use on January 12, 2012 after construction and testing by Experts of the Electricity Development Corporation, EDC. It took eight months to construct the most welcome facility with 20 MW of electricity to offer. Built to compensate for the nation's energy deficit, the Plant was conceived to strengthen energy supply and ameliorate quality in the North West Region. The Plant is served by 18 generators, nine Transformers, two fuel tanks, each carrying a capacity of 360 m3 and a 300m3 capacity water tank. It also features a control building, a switch gear and two auxiliary transformers and a battery room, ACDC room and chargers.
