Bamenda city roads in bad shape

Roads in Bamenda are recently noted for potholes, some as deep as 50 centimetres. These potholes are as a result of poor repair works carried out by the local construction companies.

It is common to find potholes in Bamenda just one month after construction work yet the same companies continue to rip a huge sum of money from the government.

Talking to reporters, Francis Lukong, a taxi driver said he cannot spend two months without visiting a mechanic because of the poor states of the road. Bike riders also attest to the fact that accidents are rampant as a result of poor road conditions. As vehicles gallop alongside speeding motorcycles, they tend to collide with each other, they said.

Yvonne Che, a passenger revealed that “it is not easy leaving mile 4 to Commercial Avenue. This is a distance of about 10minutes when the road stretch was still good, but now, it takes up to 30 minutes and sometimes more especially when there is high traffic cause by potholes along the road”.

In the same light, Amabo Joel, a resident in Bamenda laments that “I am very uncomfortable in a taxi when I have to leave from Nkwen to either Bambui or Commercial Avenue because of the existence of too many gallops on the way”.

However, these potholes have also become unbearable for students going to school because it is difficult for them to get to school on time due to traffic caused by the existence of these potholes.
