According to village elders, the incident resulted from non-respect of customary law. The fire incident on Sunday, January 11, 2015 at the Bandjoun palace, Department of Koung-Khi to the West of Cameroon continues to attract attention from all quarters.

A few days after the tragedy which reduced to ashes a part of this Palace, notables have come out to say that it was an aftermath of a succession problem from the 15th King of the dynasty.

"The customary law says that you cannot give birth to a child on the throne and have a brother succeed you after your death while your children are available. So, we did not respect the customary law. Each time, we focused on the money and here is the result”, a Bandjoun notable elaborated.

According to him, the son of Fotue (12th King of the dynasty) had to be made chief, but the son of Ngnié (13th King of the dynasty,) his Deputy and the son of the late Kamga have came together in the third position to cause problems, noted an elder of the village.

It was revealed that this is the second time the chiefdom has been set on fire in the space of ten years.

An investigation has thus been opened to determine the actual causes of this tragedy, according to the administrative authorities of the Department of Koung-Khi.
