Boko Haram still thriving: J’accuse

Tue, 1 Mar 2016 Source: Bouddih Adams

We were discussing a vey salient issue last time and were to continue, when the news blasted us the way the 24 people, who were mowed by suicide bombers in Mora last weekend, were blasted.

We were going to talk about these people, each of who behaves as if hewas born by a thousand fathers (to borrow from Eli Wallackacting Tuccoin the all-time classic, ‘The Good, The Bad and The Ugly’), when the news of the ugly deed in Mora cut my breath.

What is actually happening in the Far North? Are the Boko Haram terrorists so intelligent that they beat the intelligence and security of the US soldiers and the joint military operations in the area, every other time to cause bloodbath?

It was feted all over the media, when it was announced that a 300-strong American squad was deployed to help Cameroonian military and security forces fighting the Boko Haram. In fact, to the Cameroonian media, that signaled the end of this Boko Haram insanity.

They were analysis of the US 300 troops joining the Sub-Regional Multinational force; military vehicles that can detect mines more than a kilometre away; French security gadgets and intelligence support, all heralding the dirge of the terrorists.

But the terrorists are thriving, plying their trade every hour and sending people to early graves. The remains of some of their victims cannot be put together entirely; hence, parts are buried as early food for the worms below, while the other parts remain above and rot or provide food for carnivores.

The suicide bombers are thus groomed every day, but all the military personnel and paraphernalia have been unable to trace their breeding grounds.

You and I went to doctrine for baptism and know how long it took us to pass the test. You cannot just get up one morning and tell a child or anybody to wear some gear and go to a market and press a button, and he does so. I mean it would take at least a month to indoctrinate someone, brainwash someone to carry a bomb and go and blow up his or herself.

This goes without saying that there is a place where the would-be suicide bombers undergo this brainwashing. Such a place must need supplies, and through the supplies, it can be traced. Such a place will also need recruitment and through the recruitment officers, it can be traced.

Except we are saying that they have enough stock of people that they are grooming as suicide bombers to the extent that they don’t need to recruit any more. It means that we would have to wait until they run out of stock and start recruiting again. But no! We can’t.

On the other hand: who did the government send to negotiate with the Boko Haram hostage-takers? Why are they not asking the negotiators to indicate who they negotiated with, when they got the Catholic priests and the tourists who were taken hostage released? Who did they sent to negotiate with to have the wife of Prime Minister Amadou Ali released. Where did the negotiations take place? Why not use the same people to trace the Boko Haram leaders.

The way things were going, we suspected that some of the hostage takers were not Boko Haram.

Come to think of it, the Speaker of the National Assembly had made a statement that the terrorists were living among us. Shortly after that, his bodyguard was accused of attempts at masterminding a terrorist act against him. Do I need to tell intelligence officers to probe Cavaye?

So, with this preoccupation that concerns national security, it is betrayal to be thinking about something else. It is treasonable thinking about something which does not matter at the moment.

The Biya callers are not patriotic and do not care about their compatriots who are being bombed by terrorists, that is why they are not preoccupied by matters of the moment, but their interest, by calling on Biya to run in an election that is about three years away.

Even if we were already in 2018, and there was a burning issue like the terrorists attacks with scores of potential voters being killed almost every week, it would be preposterous to divert attention like the Biya callers are doing.

They are doing this so that the election is precipitated; he runs and they rig; he sticks power and they stick to their positions. That is treasonable egoism. In J. Rawlings philosophy, such people would face a firing squad, for putting their interest above national interest.

That is why we are asking President Biya to arrest and jail all those calling for him to run in an election that is due in faraway October 2018.

Except, he, himself, is involved and does not want to shoot himself in the foot.

Are We Together?
