An infamous road accident that occurred at Mile 29 in Muyuka Subdivision has claimed the lives of three persons. According to eyewitness reports, the two drivers and a passenger, a pregnant woman died on the spot. Meanwhile, 10 other passengers, seriously wounded,
were transported to the Buea Regional Hospital Annex for medical attention.
Talking to one of the victims receiving treatment at the hospital, CT gathered that one of the vehicles left the Buea Mile 17 Motor Park for Kumba on Saturday August 18 around 9 am. He was travelling from Douala to Muyuka to visit his elder brother. The other vehicle, according to him, was transporting passengers from Kumba.
After Ekona, he said, their vehicle, the one coming from Buea had brake failure. Their driver who was doing his best to control the vehicle left his lane. He kept on driving on the other lane until when they reached a bend before colliding with the on-coming vehicle from Kumba. Though he sustained a wound on his forehead, other passengers were in more deplorable states. Most of them had serious wounds on their faces, hands and broken legs. A medical team was immediately dispatched at the level of the hospital to attend to them.
At press time, some of the patients had been moved to other hospitals, by their families. One of the cases, an adult male whose face was heavily affected was taken to the Douala Laquintinie Hospital. Another lady with a broken left knee was moved to the Mount Mary Health Centre still in Buea. Meanwhile, the rest of the patients were actively responding to treatment administered to them.
