CUIB Students honour institution

CUIB students have once again made the institution proud with this year’s national selection for the Study of the U.S. Institute for Student Leaders on Social Entrepreneurship (SUSI) to be hosted by the University of Connecticut from June to July 2015.

The students Foubi Jephte, Kabangu Innocent, Lefor Madeleine, Yong Tina from the School of Business and Ngateu Gaelle Vanessa of the School of Engineering were selected after presenting their entrepreneurial projects and leadership experience for the competition sometime last year.

The students all in their junior year will be travelling to the U.S. for the first time to participate in the programme which is aimed at deepening participants' understanding of U.S.A. It will also provide participants with an overview of how to use business techniques and entrepreneurial skills to address social issues and finally develop participants’ leadership and collective problem-solving skills, and inspire them to apply these skills when they return to their respective countries.

The programme encompasses intensive academic courses, social entrepreneurship, leadership development and a tour of significant sites that depict the history and culture of USA.

CUIB partook in this programme 2014 with 4 students from the School of Engineering- chemical Engineering participated; Teke George Mbella, Noumbissi Ngambia Audrey, Ghomsi Tchuente Alvine and Zommi Kungne Vanessa.

Zommi Kungne Vanessa a participant from last year mentioned that her Emerald entrepreneurial venture pulled her to the 2014 SUSI programme and to her it was an unforgettable experience.

Participants of about 40 in number were drawn from North and Sub-Sahara Africa. It is worthy to know that the educational and cultural exchange programme is developed and delivered by the University’s Global Training and Development Institute in partnership with Ashoka and sponsored by the Study of the U.S. Branch in the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and cultural affairs.
