Meeting up with the ever-changing developments in information technology in today’s digital age in most organizations has been the focal reason the school of Information Technology of the Catholic University Institute of Buea organized a 6 weeks Microsoft Office training for the workers of the institution.
The training program for workers comes at a very important time: when the university is preparing for the start of the 2014/2015 academic year. It aims at boosting and enhancing the use of Microsoft tools by the workers of the institution, especially administrative assistants who use the tools in their daily activities.
“We want to improve the skills of workers, especially administrative assistants, to ensure they are up to date and can effectively work with Microsoft Office tools in the execution of their day-to-day tasks. This will lead to an increase in efficiency and thus higher productivity,” says Damen Ngatchu, Dean of the School of Information Technology.
The course, which began on August 8th, 2014 at the Computer Lab of the Molyko Campus, is in its fourth week and has about 10 participating students. So far, they have received theoretical and practical training on Microsoft Word and Excel which is in its last week. The remaining 2 weeks which will complete the 6 weeks course, will look at other advanced features of the Microsoft Office suite.
Participants have expressed satisfaction for the course and are anticipating more in the days ahead.
“I am attending the training to improve and increase my knowledge and skill in Microsoft Office, especially in Excel and PowerPoint. We have very good teachers. We have covered Word and are now on Excel; so far it has been great and I can’t wait to begin lessons on PowerPoint,” says Margaret Bama, participant.
The organizers expressed happiness and say that they will make the training program a yearly activity even though it is a first of its kind at the institution.
“We hope to make it an annual activity of the school of Information Technology and the university, specifically when we look at the continuous advancements in technology today. We think it is vital for staff to move along with technological developments and we will happily assist them in the use of information technology software,” the Dean of the School of Information Technology said.
