Capitol Technology University Laurel, MD (CTU) and the Catholic University Institute of Buea (CUIB) has recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding to establish International Partners in Education Framework between the two institutions.
Representing CTU at the signing ceremony was its president Dr. Michael T. Wood and representing CUIB was the Chancellor, Bishop Immanuel Bushu.
The purpose of the International Partners in Education Framework Agreement is to promote partnership and facilitate and enhance academic, administrative and research cooperation between the two institutions towards the goal of granting end of course certificates and degrees in both undergraduate and graduate programmes offered by both Universities.
Under the agreement, CUIB will benefit in the areas of records/compliance, curriculum sharing and development, faculty and student exchange, capacity building, articulation of credits and certification and validation, advanced staff training and technology and support in managing the programmes.
This relationship became necessary following a conference of ministers and delegates of the Economic Community of African States (ECCAS), in Yaoundé on February 15, 2015 to fight against cyber criminality and cyber terrorism and an international conference on cybersecurity held a month later at CUIB.
Both conferences revealed a lack of training and appropriate resources to fight this new type of crime which is a national, regional and global threat.
Also, the first degree program of the two institutions will concentrate on is Cybersecurity. CUIB will be hosting the degree and certification programme come Fall 2015.
In order to make this possible the Friends of CUIB in the USA facilitated the establishment of the relationship with CTU, Laurel, Maryland a center of excellence in Cybersecurity.
Both institutions plan is to expand the program across the entire Central African region.
CUIB’s Cybersecurity program is the first degree program ever to be offered in the discipline in the region and is in conformity with CUIB’s goal and vision of an entrepreneurial university.
