The Head of Programs for UN Women in Cameroon, Madame Chantal Kingue Ekambi says more needs to be done to improve on the campaign for gender equality in Cameroon.

Madame Chantal Kingue Ekambi was speaking at the Ministry of Youth and Civic Education during a close to one hour audience with the Minister of Youth and Civic Education Bidoung Mpkatt.

According to the UN diplomat, “Gender equality can be obtained if the Ministry of Youth and Civic Education implements a ‘He for She’ campaign”. ‘He for She’ is a UN initiated solidarity campaign for gender equality.

The campaign lays emphasis on the male genders’ role as agents for change in the fight for gender equality. It also deals with the need for women to vigorously denounce cases of gender discrimination.

The Diplomat was hopeful that in Cameroon, at least 1million boys should be engaged in the campaign so the country could get UN recognition.

Minister Bidoung Mpkatt on his part lauded the efforts of UN Women in Cameroon on their commitment in empowering the Cameroonian woman in the socio-economic, political and cultural domain.
