Climate Change Radio Network adopts road map for 2016

Climate Change Radio Network (CC-Radio Network) has adopted a road map for the second semester of 2016, with the objective of attracting more members, effectively create awareness on issues of Climate Change and produce professional programs for member radio stations amongst others.

The plan of action was validated at an executive bureau meeting of the association that held at the Cameroon Baptist Church Centre-Nkwen Bamenda on Saturday May 28, 2016.

The Network President, Abongwa Fozo said they intend to bring in as many radios as possible from the over 26 radio stations operating in the Northwest Region into the canopy of the network before the end of the year, inform relevant government and private institutions about their existence, forged partnerships with stake holders as well as build capacity of the radios and journalists on program production on issues of climate change.

The Network has planned visits to the Governor of the Northwest region, the regional delegates of Communication, Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries, Environment and Nature Protection, the directors of the Livestock and Fisheries Development Program, CDENO, MIDENO, SHUMAS etc between June 6 and 20, 2016.

It also plans to open a program data bank on climate change issues, highlights the activities of the indigenous Mbororo people and women influenced and affected by climate change and create an online blog for its members to easily access and share resources and experience.

Beside the road map, the meeting scheduled a general assembly meeting of the network in Kumbo, Bui Division on November 26, 2016. Others issues examined included the difficulties faced by the budding association and its member radios in producing programs on climate change.

The CC-Radio Network was created on March 10, 2016 in Bamenda with the objective to help local communities build resilience against the effects of climate change through the production and broadcast of radio programs on climate change.

It also aims to enhance exchange of professional knowledge and experiences, improve the quality and quality of programs and strengthen the capacities of member radios stations to network and build partnerships with all stakeholders on climate change issues.

Membership to the network is open to all radio stations upon registration. There network today boost of nine member radio stations, which are Stone FM Ndop, Boyo Community Radio in Fundong, Bui Community Radio and City Community Radio in Kumbo, Savanah Frontiere Radio Ndu, Savanah Frontier Radio and Donga Mantung Community Radio in Nkambe, Planet FM Mbengwi and Rush FM Radio Bali.

Plans are currently underway to expand the membership to include all the radio stations in the Northwest before the close of the year and subsequently the West and Southwest regions.

The pioneer executive of nine, elected for a mandate of two years renewable once is lead by Abongwa Fozo of Rush FM Bali as president, assisted by Ali Amina Bonje of Donga Mantung Community Radio as the vice.

Other members of the executive include Tamnjong Richard (Secretary), Ngebi Kingsley Samba (Assistant Secretary), Deng Eric (Treasurer), Mboutna Anabi Z.(Fincacial Secretary), Tume Humphrey (Public Relations Officer), and George Tando Tankoh and Njozoven Lawrence Tangwa as auditors.
