Cameroon has joined the entire educational community to commemorate the 20th edition of the International Teachers' Day.
The day which comes up every 5th October was celebrated in Yaounde at the Multipurpose Sports Complex in Warda under the theme, “Investing for the future, investing in teachers”.
Presiding at the event, the Minister of Basic Education, Youssouf Hadjidja Alim revealed the importance of education calling it a sector with utmost priority.
In this regard, Minister Youssouf Hadjidja thanked government for efforts towards improving the plight of teachers and called for more support subsequently.
In a special message delivered on the day, the UNESCO Director General, Irina Bokova called on the governments of nations to promote quality teaching by ameliorating the working and living conditions of teachers.
Amid the pomp and grandeur of the event, the public was thrilled to jokes and traditional dances, coupled with the colourful Teachers’ Day fabric worn by most of the celebrants.
The Governor of the Centre region, as well as some ministers and members of government joined the teachers in their celebration at the Multipurpose Sports Complex.
