Committee installed for Kumba II development

The executive members and resource persons of zone II Development Committee of the Kumba II have been installed with a clarion call to assist the Mayor to initiate development in the municipality.

The Mayor of Kumba II council, Forcha Ndobegang Martin made the call on the occasion of the installation of exco members and resource persons of that committee that took place on Friday, March 21, 2014.

The creation of development committees in Kumba II was the outcome of a budgetary session of that council that took place on January 6, 2014. Following the adoption of that resolution seven development committees were created in Kumba II to assist the Mayor by initiating projects.

The zone II development committee the first of the committees to have its exco and resource persons installed is headed by councilor Kajetan Fopa Jean as Chairman. The committee whose other aims to curb crime, banditry, ensure the hygiene and sanitation of the zone stretches from Hill Top to the Presbyterian youth Centre Fiango.

In his speech, before the installation, the Mayor reminded the resident of that zone that development should not only be considered in terms of ones village of origin but where he resides, reason he added he and his councilors initiated the creation of the development committees to supervise development in Kumba II.

The Mayor, who promised that his council would also look for ways and means to assist orphans and other disadvantaged persons in the council area, reminded the exco of zone II that development of that zone rest solely on their shoulders noting the council would only assist in priority projects tabled by each zone.

In his speech, the Chairman of the Zone II development committee Kajetan Fopa Jean pointed out that the creation of the committee is the council’s own step towards participatory development, given that any lasting and durable development must involve the entire community.

Continuing, he added nation building enshrine everybody, reason the Zone II development committee of the Kumba II council, has among its executive members the CPDM, ANDP and members of the civil society. He also mentioned that the priority projects of his committee would be security, roads, hygiene and sanitation, water, streets lighting.

While the quarter committees will meet once each month, for deliberation, the seven committees will meet quarterly with the Mayor in council to present their projects and deliberate and execution. One of the resource persons, Mbanya Flaubert, later told this reporter that he wholeheartedly buys the Mayor vision of creating development committees and he would do everything possible, financial and otherwise to catapult the development of zone II.

Also installed as exco of zone II were Chi Esther, Chakam Morris, Ndifor Anna, as vice chairperson, secretary and treasurer.
