The Senior Divisional Officer, SDO, for Meme David Koulbout Aman, has urged the population to denounce any bike rider or taxi driver caught harassing the newly admitted students into the Higher Technical Teachers Training College, HTTTC, Kumba.

The administrator has issued a communiqué calling on all stakeholders and city dwellers to report such persons to his office or the forces of law and order for appropriate action.

According to the SDO’s release, the decision is in line with moves taken to “fight insecurity and the protection of the newly admitted students of HTTTC Kumba.”

The release has urged the population of Meme Division and the various neighbourhoods where the students reside to intensify vigilance and report such persons to the appropriate authorities.

The call from the administrator is seen to be proactive given that, Kumba inhabitants usually lose their mobile phones, wallets and other valuables to robbers at gun point even in broad daylight.

Occasionally, the city enjoys some degree of peace and security when police patrols are maximised, the bandits soon seem to break loose and wreak havoc on the population.

Kumba is replete with bikers and taxi drivers who sometimes act in complicity with robbers and sometimes they themselves rob their passengers of money and other valuables.

Victims are usually strangers in Kumba who are often sweet-talked into fake business transactions by the K-town’s numerous dealers’.

In other cases, citizen’s homes and apartments have been broken into and emptied of property.

A Kumba city dweller, James Sona, said measures should be taken to ensure maximum security in student residential areas police presence along the Cameroon College of Arts and Science, CASS, where the lecture halls are located.
