The third wave of 35 seater air-conditioned buses has just come to ease the commercial transport problem in Douala.
The news was well received by commuters, members of civil society, traditional chiefs and traders who expressed appreciation to the government for reviving the Cameroon urban transport company (Socatur).
In fact, 9 samples of 50 air-conditioned minibuses 35-seat were presented to Fritz Ntonè Ntonè delegate of the Government in the urban community of Douala (Cud) and Paul Naseri Bea, prefect of the Wouri Department, respectively on Tuesday, February 24.
This other new acquisition comes once more to ease commuters of harassment from taxi-drivers and bike riders due to the lack in the transport system in the area.
Now, almost all of the districts of the economic capital will be served, as had been promised in May 2009 by Jean Ernest Ngallè Bibehè. "It is indeed to offer not only to the city of Douala, but especially to people, a pleasant transport system and a better quality of service", stressed the DG.
So therefore, it is important to reinforce existing lines, serving the city of Douala and especially the remote districts, at a lower cost, 150 or 200 CFA francs maximum, depending on the distances.
This is the main concern that brought Fritz Ntonè Ntonè, the Government delegate with CUD, to express his satisfaction on the gesture. "These new buses will improve the lives of Cameroonians who face harassment by the taxidriver", he said.
Paul Naseri Bea, the prefect of the Wouri, also urged traders to invest in the area of transport.
