The ELECAM council members for the North Region have held an evaluation meeting on electoral registration this 2nd September 2015.
The ELECAM officials met to evaluate the registration process after the tour of the four divisions of the region.
During the meeting, the ELECAM officials expressed satisfaction with the significant increase in the number of newly registered voters to 26,888 during the just ended exercise.
One of the ELECAM council members, Dr Adamou Ali noted that the increase in voters’ registration is remarkable and supersedes the results of last year during which just 8081 voters were registered.
He however recommended more sensitisation during the next registration process.
Statistics from the region indicate that 18,215 youths between the ages of 20 and 35 enrolled on the electoral lists.
In the meantime, the female folk were at the bottom of the classification table with only 11,000 registered as against their male counterparts with 15,000.
The registration exercise however experienced some hurdles especially with the prevalence of insecurity in the region leading to the closure of some border identification posts.
