The Minister of Higher Education, Prof. Jacques Fame Ndongo has lauded the efforts of the people of the South West Region, in general, and the town of Kumba, in particular, for providing a temporary site for the Higher Technical Teachers Training College, HTTTC Kumba. The Minister lauded their efforts on Saturday July 5, 2014 while on a working visit to the sites in Kumba that will accommodate the baby institution of the University of Buea.
The Minister who was accompanied by the South West Governor, Bernard Okalia Bilai, the Registrar of University of Buea, Prof. Nalova Lyonga and newly appointed HTTTC Director, Prof. Joyce Endeley, visited Government Technical High School (GTHS) Kumba, the Public Works Building and the Second flow of the Kumba City Banquet Hall.
After the visit to the sites, Prof. Fame Ndongo recommended that the areas were good for the institution's smooth kick-off the by October 2014. While urging the population of Kumba to give full collaboration to the new Director to enable her succeed in the enormous task ahead of her, the minister assured the Kumba population that his next visit will only be during the graduation ceremony of the first batch of trainers from the institution.
During the working session in the City Hall, the Vice Chancellor of the University of Buea disclosed that the University of Buea shall be incurring a cost of over FCFA 167 million for the repair of worn-out machines in GTHS Kumba, since the school will act as the main technological centre. She further announced that some thirty new lecturers have been transferred to the school.
