FCFA 8m inadequate for constituency - Kumba MP

The Member of Parliament, MP, for Kumba Urban Constituency, Hon Bolivie Mbanya, has stated that the FCFA 8 million Parliamentary grants for micro project is too small to contribute to development in his constituency.

Mbanya was talking to reporters on September 14 at the end of the maiden edition of his Super Cup tournament finals that pitted Kumba Town FC against Three Corners FC.

Hon Mbanya’s comment was in response to a question on whether the tournament was bankrolled from the micro project grants, after spending millions to donate health and school facilities and rehabilitate some water schemes in Kumba.

He told reporters that the money was nothing compared to the development projects that are begging for sponsorship in his constituency. Mbanya further reminded reporters that, before becoming a MP, he was already "a very successful advocate." According to him, he cannot be thinking of keeping his constituency buoyant only when money comes from the central Government.

Revisiting the Super Cup tournament, the MP said he was a happy cup donor, going by the response from the various stakeholders and services that helped in organising the tournament. Kumba Town FC beat Three Corners FC 4-2 after post-match penalties to clinch the MP's trophy.

Mbanya remarked that instituting a Super Cup tournament was a forum to send the youth back to school on high gear, after the long vacation. The MP said attention will be shifted to other areas of need.

According to him, the Super Cup has come to stay as a tradition throughout his mandate as MP. He assured the population that, the finals of the tournament will rotate between the three council areas yearly to give every community the chance of enjoying the ambiance that accompanies such social ventures.

The six-team tournament saw the participation of two teams from each council area namely Kumba I, II and III. The winner of the tournament went home with a trophy and cash price of FCFA 200,000, while the runners-up pocketed FCFA 100,000 and the third place went home with FCA 50,000.
