The 2015 phase of the examination held with candidates exhibiting their know-how in various disciplines.
First School Leaving Certificate (FSLC) examination candidates in the South West Region, just like in the rest of the country, ended the practical session on Friday, May 22, 2015, with no major incidents reported.
Cameroon Tribune visited some centres in Buea, amongst them the Cameroon Baptist Convention (CBC) Primary School, Great Soppo Group I, where some candidates were undergoing their practicals in cookery, laundry, agriculture, shoe polishing and drawing.
Mrs. Nanyongo Doris, one of the coordinators for the zone, told reporters that 385 candidates from 15 schools went in for the practicals. She noted that all went on well, with all registered candidates present. She explained that there was an increase in the number of candidates and a high level of improvement in their performance unlike last year.
At the end of the practicals, candidates were evaluated on the presentation of their work before and after. There was also a question and answer session in their chosen disciplines. The written part of the examination is next month.
Shelma Katuck, one of the candidates who went in for cookery, told CT that the practicals were very easy because candidates did a lot of practice back in their schools. “It took me 30 minutes to prepare fruit salad. I am very happy for such an opportunity to show everyone my cooking skills. I expect a good mark,” she said.
Another candidate, Verburinyuy Jervis Nyah, said he prepared cabbage and ripe plantain, which took him one hour. “I am proud to be cooking at this age. The authorities who decided to include cookery in the practical part of the examination did a very good thing.
This will help us in future to have restaurants of our own and be successful in life. I know I will get a good mark,” he explained. Esimo Boris, whose chosen domain was agriculture, said, “I am very happy doing farming. I chose farming because I love it. It took me 20 minutes to clear and construct a ridge on which I planted maize. I had no difficulties.”
