Families abandon their mentally ill relatives in the streets

Wed, 8 Oct 2014 Source: Le Jour

Apart from a few pavilions poorly equipped and poorly managed, the mentally ill are abandoned by their families, otherwise left in the street or at the whim of tradi-practitioners.

The situation at ‘Carrefour Total’ at Bafoussam angers road users, because it is still crowded with these mentally ill people. Mostly seated by the road, they hardly have time to chase flies that seem to enjoy their company.

One of them by name "Jackson" given by the tenants of a call-box surrounding, in a particularly wacky and never tired outfit, he spends his time blowing into a piece of pipe, which he takes as his "vuvuzela".

The police eventually are used to this and do not interfere even when he disturbs them sneaking between the vehicles they are trying to control.
