Fire has set a house and valuable property to ruins at the Centre Market of the Etoug Ebe neighbourhood in Yaounde.

This incident occurred this Friday 5th December 2014 at 4 am when a boiling pot of red oil sparked flames.

Eyewitness and victim, Richard who was seriously affected recounted that the incident occurred as a result of carelessness on the part of a certain lady, palm oil seller who had abandoned a pot of oil on the fire.

Even after having been warned about the impending danger, the palm oil dealer would hardly listen.

The fruit of disobedience was yet to be reaped by even an innocent shoe-maker like Richard whose working tools and some newly fabricated shoes worth 2.5 million FCFA, were burnt to ruins when the hot oily pot caught flames.

The apartment which is part of Richard’s workshop and linked with four others was burnt to wrecks.

The timely intervention of the fire fighting brigade brought the wild flame which was already extending to other houses, to control.

The fire damaged electric connectivity around the area leading to total black-out.

The land-lord Ngionang Ngongong Hugues Aime said he was fed up with the whole issue and will have to join the victim including the said lady to give their statement at the Melen police district.

Though no life was lost, the estimated property lost in the fire disaster and even the horrific atmosphere the incident created in the hearts of many, is a cause for concern.
