First Director of West Cameroon Prisons laid to rest

Richard Adolf Titang who became the first Cameroonian in 1966 has this Friday, February 5, 2016, been laid to rest in Bamenda.

Beginning from the St Joseph Metropolitan Cathedral where a funeral Mass was said in his honor, the former Prison Administrator mostly referred to as Pa Titang was presented as a humble and simple man with enormous contributions to the penitentiary service in Cameroon.

On behalf of the Penitentiary Administration F. Fofung Immaculate Administrator General of Prisons disclosed that late Titang was the first Penitentiary Officer to be trained in Nigeria and Great Britain from where he was appointed “to the enviable position of Director of Prisons in the United Republic of Cameroon, a post you held for a good while during which you laid down the solid Foundation on which Cameroons penitentiary administration now stands.”

In his capacity as the President of Bamenda-based club 58 which Pa Titang once headed for 13years, Ndumu Vincent Nji who is also Government Delegate to the Bamenda City Council described Pa Titang as “an inspiration to many club members especially in the meaning which he gave to a community life of sharing giving and receiving.”

Football fans will remember the departed Pa Titang as the founder of legendary and renowned football team Prisons Social Club of Buea which played in the first Division in Cameroon for over 14years.

He later became President of PWD Bamenda and CAMMARK Bamenda he did not only take an interest in football as he also served as Vice President of FECATENNIS in the 90s.

Bobe Titang as his fellow countrymen from Kom country will prefer to call was laid to rest in his Bamenda residence after a colourful yet solemn Military honors event by the Penitentiary Administration.
