Activities to commemorate 20 years of Chantal Biya’s humanitarian works ended over the weekend in Yaounde.
After one year of sporting, open-door displays and other diversified activities, curtains were finally drawn at a humanitarian gala on Saturday, September 19, 2015 in one of the bouquet Halls, at the Mont-Febe Hotel in Yaounde on activities to commemorate 20 years of Cameroon’s First Lady’s humanitarian services to Cameroonians in particular and Africa at large.
Events, organised by the association, “Jeunesse et Conscience, pour le Président” (JCP) and co-patronised by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Civic Education and the Ministry of Sports and Physical Education gave Cameroonians, an in-depth understanding of the humanitarian services of the First Lady, Mrs Chantal Biya, who is UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador for Education and Social Inclusion and also UNAIDS Special Ambassador.
Speaking in the presence of members of the diplomatic corps as well as representatives of cabinet ministers, the Coordinator of the association, Hervé Otchamzo Noumabouk said it was an ideal moment to honour and encourage the works of a woman with a good heart, Mrs Chantal Biya, whose humanitarian gestures are seen through organisations she founded such as African Synergy for the Fight Against AIDS and Suffering, the Chantal Biya Foundation and the Circle of Friends of Cameroon (CERAC).
After a year of sporting events and competitions, the humanitarian gala was a climax to award trophies and gifts to meritorious clubs and participants.
Humanitarian beauty queens were also crowned. Adèle Nkomane Tcheke, a student of the University of Yaounde II, Soa was crowned Miss Humanitarian 2014.
Kana Zouatcham a student with IAI, and Joséphine Enyegue Essomba were also crowned first and second respectively. Institutions that work on a daily basis to support the works of the First Lady were also awarded.
Some of such organisations are the Chantal Biya Foundation, “Fondation médico-chirurgicale Rosa Nsisim” of the dress designer, Blaz Design, the Ngoyla Council in the East Region and the NGO “Alliance Djouko Kadey” of Mrs Angouing.
In his words transmitted by the Inspector General of the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Civic Education, Minister Bidoung Mkpatt encouraged members of the association in their actions to create awareness amongst youths. Local artistes such as Denise Naafa and Sylvain Rose added sound to the event.
