The governor of the North West Region of Cameroon, Mr. Lele Lafrique visited Esu to assess the conflict between the people of Esu and Mr. Baba Amadou Danpullo.

The visit comes after Baba Danpullo accused the governor for being an obstacle to his greedy ambition to illegally claim ownership of more than 10,000 hectares of Esu land.

Prior to the visit to Esu, the governor held a meeting on Monday the 28th of December with the Fon of Esu- HRH Albert Kum-a-Chuo II, the youth leader Muabe Philip Zih Kpweh, the SDO for Menchum and the DO for Fungom.

According to the governor the aim of the meeting was to prepare them for the visit, and to assure them of his willingness to find a lasting solution to the conflict.

The governor urged the fon of Esu to do all in his powers to advise the population of Esu not to be present on site – Ibiy Wundele, during his visit. His reason as he stated “is that he does not want anyone to impede the assessment of the conflicted area”.

The people of Esu who had been mobilized to be present on site had mixed feelings to the governor’s advice deterring them from site during his visit. They are very, very vigilant and will from a distant but closely follow governor’s visit. However, one eyewitness said they want this to be clear: the people of Esu again are making it clear that they will not sell or negotiate their ancestral land.

The people of Esu(Dze usu) were relieved to receive governor Lele Lafrique- in their beautiful village at such a critical time. They noted that presence of the governor in Esu was an indication on how serious his administration considers the dispute with Baba Danpullo.

“Your Excellency, history shows that the Esu people are peace loving. They are at peace with themselves and with their neighbours. We want it to stay that way. The Esu people also welcome visitors, those that want to settle permanently and temporarily. For example, we live in harmony with many grazers who have respected the jurisdiction of our Fon and stayed within the land boundaries they were allocated by the Fon. Alhaji Ahmadou Danpullo has been an exception!! Come governor, come and see the so called “investments” Mr. Danpullo claims he has invested in Esu.”

Reports confirmed the presence of Mr. Baba Ahmadou Danpullo in Esu ahead of the governor’s visit. The people of Esu fervently hope a lasting solution will be found this time. They are determined to stop at nothing until justice – total justice has been rendered.
