A former student of the University of Buea, UB, reportedly set herself on fire and died three days.

The girl, whose name The Post got from her neighbours as Magdella, was among the 2013 UB graduates.

Magdella reportedly committed her suicidal act in her village in Manyu. She is said to have set herself on fire due to frustration from going for years without a job and the mockery she received from villagers and relatives.

Her friends told The Post that neighbours quickly intervened and extinguished the flames from Magdella’s body but the damage had already been done.

She was rushed to the hospital where she died.

Magdella is said to have constantly complained about unemployment, always remarking that all her friends have been employed.

She seemingly was bitter that after filling numerous job applications, she couldn’t land any. Magdella’s embarrassment was made more unbearable by the stinging remarks from villagers.

Late Magdella’s friend, Beatrice, who operates a shop, recalls that she had proposed to the girl to take up abusiness like her.

Beatrice said sheeven looked for a place in Buea, but her friend rejected the offer and went on with her job search which was also accompanied by prayers and search for miracles.

“She wanted to get into this our store business and I found a place for her in Dirty South, Molyko, but she was too traumatized to concentrate and now her sister runs the store. Prayers are reported to have contributed to herfrustrations when she complained to friends of seeing ghosts in real life after she was prayed for,” says Beatrice.

Late Magdella graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Historyfrom the University of Buea in 2013 and had been searching for a job for over two years.
