Kumba III must host HTTTC - Mayor

The Mayor of Kumba III Council in Meme Division, Southwest Region, John Kona Makia, has declared that his municipality will host the Higher Technical Teachers Training College, HTTTC Kumba, irrespective of opposition from some quarters.

Makia was speaking on July 26, while chairing a ceremony to receive a donation of equipment to the Ntam District Hospital from the Kumba Yaounde Friends Association, KUYFA.

According to the Mayor, despite the strategic location of his municipality which shares a common boundary with all Councils in Meme, including the Tombel Council in Kupe Muanenguba Division; “some people” are fighting to tie down its development.

“We know that they are fighting for HTTTC not to be in Kumba III, but I want to assure you that even without a godfather, we are going to have the school here in Kumba III,” the Mayor stated.

Mayor Makia said rumour-mongers and other forces are already proposing Kosala in Kumba II as permanent site for the newly created HTTTC. He said in spite of the fact that Kumba III has no elites, things will work out for the good of the municipality.

Makia asserted that the donation from KUYFA was historic in the life of Kumba III, given that such a thing has never happened. He said the donation will help strengthen the quality of services the health facility renders to the population.

He explained that his municipality is blessed given that over 95 percent of funds from Parliamentary grants, has been disbursed to step up the functioning of the Ntam Hospital.

KUYFA Project Coordinator, Emmanuel Yumbi, explained that the donation and money raised during the occasion will be invested in other projects in the health facility to assist the Government as partners in development and not for personal interest.

Sinclair Forba, President of KUYFA, made up of Kumba sons and daughters residing in Yaounde, assured the beneficiary institution that the exercise was void of political, racial and religious affiliation.

Forba said the hospital beds, buckets, cupboards and mattresses cost the association FCFA 2 million, alongside flat screen television sets from other supporters of the gesture.

Emmanuel Lefanda Lenya, Chief Medical Officer of Ntam Hospital told reporters that it was a dream-come-true since 1966 when Government created the health facility. He said he was delighted by the donation, remarking that the beds will help the thousands of Cameroonians who seek medical attention in the hospital.

Edward Cheyip, Focal Point Community Health Coordinator of the Ntam health area, told The Post that the donation marked the beginning of a new page in terms of quality health care in Ntam.
