Labour minister decorates 33 GIZ workers

The Minister of Labour and Social Security, Gregoire Owona, on December 4, decorated some 33 workers of the German Development Organisation, GIZ, who have been rendering services to the cooperation for over two decades.

The workers, who were given labour medals of honour, The Post learnt, fall within the framework of the cooperation’s “well being policy of the staff.”

Minister Owona urged the medal recipients to work towards the economic emergence of Cameroon, while upholding and fostering healthier relations between both countries.

According to the Minister, the cooperation has been at the forefront of promoting social dialogue between both countries.

The German Ambassador to Cameroon, Klaus-Ludwig Keferstein, in his congratulatory message, highlighted as GIZ’s objective, the promotion of sustainable development.

“The award of these medals is in accordance with the economic policy of Cameroon aimed at promoting employment and fostering economic growth,” he said.

The Deputy Director of GIZ, Bernadette Neu, emphasised on the cooperation’s ideology of promoting Germano-Cameroon relationship.

“Within the well-being policy of the staff, we ensure that there is a favourable working environment for all workers, the collective health of all is well preserved and sporting activities instituted to ameliorate the physical well-being of workers for maximum productivity to be attained,” she stated.

One of the recipients of the medals and representative of the staff of GIZ, Denise Foukouop, expressed joy and pleaded with the Labour Minister to see to the amelioration of the working conditions of certain workers in Cameroon.

“Two preoccupations, Mr Minister, for which I plead with you to address in your Ministry, are: improve the pension situation of retired workers and the conditions of the young and aging persons who do not work as per the Labour Code of Cameroon.” To her, such enhancements will drive the country towards vision 2035.

GIZ, which has been operating in Cameroon for the past 40 years, The Post learnt, was acknowledging the services rendered by the workers through the award of labour medals.
