Lekie: Women seek ways to be integrated in the society

A network of women, OYILI BININGA “RESOBIL” grouping 47 rural women groups in the Lekie Division in the Centre Region have met in the Village of Mbele for their 10th General Assembly.

The network created in 2007 is training women in product transformation, women empowerment and petty trading.

During their tenth assembly that assembled rural women from five sub-divisions of the Lekie, an agro pastoral complex was inaugurated while the women showcased a foretaste of farm produce and ready met products.

In recognition of her efforts in integrating the lekie woman in the third generation agriculture, the Founder and President of this network, Odile Eyebe Ayissi was honoured with a medal of Knight of Valour from the state. It was a great moment from her women folk who could hide their joy but sing songs of appreciation to their president.

These various women groups were then handed down farm equipment, kitchen utensils and some amount of money to set up local production centres in their localities.

The Senior Divisional Officer of the Lekie , Patrick Simo Kamsu who chaired the ceremony lauded the efforts of the president of the network in assembling over 1200 rural women with common development goals.

He noted governments support to similar group which is in line with the promotion of small and medium size enterprises in the country.

The enlarged General Assembly was an occasion that business bodies and organisation used to market their products to the rural women while local musicians from the Lekie stole show and brought the women to their feet dancing.

It all took place in the presence of the Divisional Officer of Obala, the Mayor, local authorities and villagers.
