The North West Region continues to count its dead through floods, lightning and natural disasters, with heavy rains to blame. This time around, faraway Nwa in Donga-Mantung Division was on August 13, 2015, topical with a lightning bolt injuring five people.
According to one Mrs. Nyeh who works in the Nwa District Hospital, God was on the side of victims, most of whom only suffered first degree burns. The hospital treated Ma Adamu Grace of first degree burns, while Hamadjoda Aissatou, Biwong Augustine and others, suffered lesser injuries. As at press time, all the victims had already returned to their homes after treatment.
Reports reveal that the lightning struck in the neighbourhood of Pa Buinda Junction in Nwa town, Nwa Subdivision as the victims had just finished a community labour exercise that involved the communities of Nwa, Mbem and Rom.
They had filed out on the fateful day to open up gutters and fill the bumpy portions of the main stretch of road that leads into Nwa Subdivision with the Divisional Officer, Tumassang Walters, supervising.
On the other hand, rains have not been helping matters in recent times with floods killing livestock in Bamenda while lightning snatched the life of a student in Kumbo in Bui Division.
