Handicaps and Vulnerable persons in Limbe have received cash and material support from the Limbe I Council.
The donations were made recently at the premises of the Limbe I by the first Deputy Mayor Henry Motomby on behalf of the Mayor.
Speaking during the event, the Chief of the Limbe Social Centre said the donation is in line with the decentralisation programme of the State instituted in 2010 which ensures that government reaches out to the people at the grassroots in every community, nation wide through the award of sustainable assistance that will go along way to improve on the people’s standard of living and empower them socio economically.
She added that the government trough the ministries of social affairs and territorial administration and decentralisation decided the budgetary line for assistance allocated under the ministry of social affairs be handed to the local councils who have been given powers to ensure the better welfare of persons and judicious distribution of this assistance to the needy and poor people within their communities.
She said out of the many who applied for assistance, ten individuals and groups benefited from the donations.
She pleaded with the beneficiaries to make the assistance sustainable in the long term and assured them that there will be a close follow up by the Limbe Social Centre to ensure that they put the support to proper use.
The population of Limbe I was reminded that the action has come to stay hence the needy were urged to take advantage and apply o the Mayor of the Limbe I Council through the Social Centre.
Meanwhile the First Deputy Mayor of Limbe I, Henry Motomby expressed thanks to the Government that the fruits of decentralisation are already manifesting. Mayor Motomby Henry said in the past the programme was existing though in behind the scenes.
“With the advantage of decentralisation, the councils have been empowered by sending the project to them and for them to do minute by minute supervision” He said.
To the beneficiaries, Motomby says they should remain ambassadors to the Council and the state since the state thinks of them.
He added that the recipients should put the support in to true sustainable use so that they do not remain totally dependent and allowing others to benefit from the programme.
The beneficiaries include, the Limbe Handicap Association, Center for the Rehabilitation of Rural Handicaps and eight individuals.
Cash as much as FCFA 100,000 per individual, rentable plastic chairs, try cycles and medical equipment were donated by officials of the Limbe I Council to the needy.
