The mayor and councillors of the Limbe II council in Mokundange, are leaving no stone unturned, in their quest to ensure that the council gets vibrant sources of local revenue to cater for the development of the municipality, and effectively transform it to The New Limbe, as being echoed.

According to Mayor Duncan Molindo, plans to carry out some major projects, including a modern park and a permanent market for the municipality, are already underway, and will see the light of day in the nearest future.

This filtered out, during the council’s first ordinary session for the examination of the 2013 administrative, management and stores management accounts, on Friday, July 18, at the council’s newly constructed chambers in Mokundange.

The mayor stated that the budget which was balanced in revenue and expenditure at the sum of FCFA 320million, with additional budget of FCFA 17166600, witnessed a 57.05% realisation rate, with an excess of over FCFA 2million.

The new council chambers, rehabilitation of roads, beaches, schools etc, efforts to foster hygiene and sanitation, care to widows and the needy, collaboration with foreign partners etc, were some achievements highlighted by the mayor, as he called on the councillors to avoid unproductive debates and come up with positive ideas to see the development and success of the municipality. Fako Senior Divisional Officer SDO, Zang III, who had earlier on visited some project sites in the municipality, appreciated the Limbe II team for their efforts in fostering development.

However, he noted that though the council witnessed excess revenue, they are very dependent on the state, as 89% of their revenue is from state sources, and thus cautioned them to among other things take stringent measures for revenue collection, provide water, good roads and electricity, intensify hygiene and sanitation, enforce teamwork and also further establish collaboration with their national and international partners.

After fruitful deliberations, the Limbe II councillors adopted the accounts, joining efforts with the mayor to ensure that more local revenue sources are created and well utilized for the benefit of their municipality, and its subsequent transformation to The New Limbe.

In a confident and positive manner, Mayor Duncan, shortly after the session, told the press that, though they do not have any huge amount of money fixed anywhere, he has faith in God to see them through in the development and completion of their 2014 plan of action, which will in no small way give them financial autonomy.
