Littoral governor convenes crisis meeting after "prison brawl"

The brawl occurred Tuesday, October 07, 2014 as the police and the sub-prefect of the District of Douala 2 interposed to bring order.

The unusual scene took place in front of the famous Douala New Bell central prison Tuesday, October 07, 2014. The artery which took place in front of the penitentiary was baited by a general fight between the members of the gendarmerie nationale and those of the corps of prison guards.

Originally this unusual battle, a disagreement between a gendarme responsible for regulating traffic on the one hand and a motorcycle-taxi driver and his client who is a prison guard on the other hand.

"A prison guard ordered a bike rider to drop him in a place forbidden for parking. A gendarme came to the scene and decided to "verbalize" the motorcycle driver, to which the prison warden opposed. He explained to the policeman that he was the one who asked the motorcycle driver to park there but the gendarme did not want to hear anything. This led to an argument after which the gendarme brought out his weapon. The prison warden managed to disarm him and took the weapon inside the prison. As reinforcements, his colleagues from the mounted police encircled the prison", revealed a witness at the scene.

Thus, a lively altercation followed between these two bodies including shots and stone-throwing. The sub-prefect of the District of Douala accompanied by 2 of the elements of the Commissioner of public safety of the 2nd District managed to restore order.
