Magic Capitol launches academic year with ambitious plan

Capitol Higher Institute of Health Sciences and Beauty Therapies (Capitol) –Bamenda has promise to maintain the high standards it has set for itself over the years, in the upcoming 2014/2015 academic year, with the new value added campus at Mile VII Mankon, to go fully operational.

That was revealed by Mr. Ngalah Edward, Founder/CEO of Capitol at a press briefing at the Conference Hall of Mondial Hotel, this afternoon.

“This institution has been scoring the best results at the government HND and HPD national examinations, deserving the name MAGIC SCHOOL as we are now fondly called by other schools of this magnitude” he said in his opening statement.

Capitol he continued offers both Higher National Diploma (HND) and the Higher Professional Diploma (HPD) in all her specialties, offers an integrated Bilingual training system, boast of a professional teaching staff, an attractive fee scheme open to installment payments in cash and kind, offers yearly scholarships worth millions of franc CFA amongst others.

In a question and answer session, Dr Mfomfu Daniel, Director of HND/HPD programs defended the school’s new community internship program, a pioneer scheme that takes the students to face the basic realities in their communities and which also attempts to address common health issues at the root level, focusing on education, sensitization and prevention instead of cure in the hospitals.

One of such student on internship narrated how in Santa their going into the community uncovered that response on the use of mosquitoes nets at the level of the hospital was quite contrary to what they saw in the field where several households were not sleeping under these nets but instead using them for other purposes, keeping the prevalence of malaria still high despite the distribution of free mosquito treated nets.

On the issue of untrained beauty therapist operating everywhere, Mr. Ngalah said Capitol intends to recycle those that are already caring out manicure and pedicure by offering refresher courses and training backed with certificates and to continue to train professionals that can make a difference once in the market.

Capitol he announced has signed a performance contract with some health institutions to supply skilled health personnel to each of these institutions which he said can take capitol to task if their products fail to meet up with the required standard. Another innovation he revealed is to the pressmen and women in particular with each member of the press corps to benefit a reasonable discount for any loved one send to Capitol.

Capitol Higher Institute of Health Sciences and Beauty Therapies started as far back as 1994. In 2005, the school was authorized to go operational by the ministry of Public Health. This was followed up in 2008 with an authorization to run the HND and HPD programs by the minister of Higher Education.

Today Capitol offers programs leading to the HND and HPD in Nursing, Laboratory technicians, and beauty therapy. Besides these, Capitol also offers international health programs that match with the United States NCLEX exams and the UK National Health Services Standards. Capitol also proposes jobs and training opportunities and assists in job placement and interns for its trainees both at home and abroad.

A major innovation this year was the award of the “Man of the year” prize to Ngu Augustine Achiri for his selfless and voluntary work in keeping Bamenda town passable by filling the hundred of neglected pot holes found in town on a daily.

This award, the CEO said will continue on a yearly basis as Capitol’s recognition of hard work and dedicated service for the growth of the region. Also at the briefing were Mrs. Atanga Bi Mary, Board chair of Capitol and Mr. Atamja Christain a member of the teaching staff. The new academic for higher institutes in Cameroon kicks off this October and will run up to June 2015.
