Marijuana plants have been uncovered, inter-planted in maize and vegetables farms in Shukai Vekovi in Jakiri Subdivision in Bui Division and uprooted and destroyed at the Gendarmerie Brigade in Jakiri Subdivision.

The Divisional Officer for Jakiri Subdivision, Daniel Ngembane Ekole, accompanied by the Brigade Commander of the Jakiri Gendarmerie Brigade, Adjudant Major Lucas Anyam and two of his elements as well as the third Deputy Mayor of Jakiri Council Alhadji Musa Mbiydzenyuy moved to the scene on August 30, 2014 and uprooted the marijuana plants and conveyed them to the gendarmerie brigade in Jakiri where it was set afire The owners of the two farms where the marijuana plants were found were not immediately identified.

The DO on the spot invited the headmaster of Government Primary School Vekovi, the Councilor of the Jakiri Council in that village, one Ernest Manjong and Shufai Mbiame the village head of that community for findings concerning the owners of the said two farms.

The Divisional Officer for Jakiri Subdivision in an interview with this reporter acknowledged that the Subdivision is well known for the cultivation of marijuana but that this is the first time the plants have been uncovered. He said it has been difficult for their informants to lead them to where such farms are found because they fear to be exposed. He said they have multiplied their networks to track down those who cultivate marijuana.

He said the administration and the Forces of Law and order are bent on uncovering such farms at Vekovi, Mwem and Mbokam. He explained that in the past when they got information from an informant and wanted to verify it the informant will be very reluctant to release further information on the grounds that he will be exposed and will disappear from the scene.

Ekole Ngembane assured all their informants that their identity will be kept hidden from any information they give the administration and the Forces of Law and Order relating to the uncovering of marijuana farms in the Subdivision. He said, “even though the people who cultivate marijuana are very stubborn, we will make sure that we rid Jakiri Subdivision of it".
