Muyuka mayor drags CPDM section president to court

The Mayor of Muyuka, Nkeng Michael Akamin has lodged a complaint before the State Counsel for Muyuka against Fako II CPDM section president, Lazare Landjinou Djomgoue.

Landjinou was served Friday, June 19, to appear before the State Counsel for Muyuka, Monday, June 22. This came in the backdrop of an altercation between the Muyuka CPDM boss and the Mayor during a session of the council held Wednesday, June 10.

Landjinou who also serves as a Councillor for Muyuka confirmed that he honoured the summons and appeared before the State Counsel for a matter against Mayor Nkeng.

According to him, he has been charged for defamation of the character of Mayor Nkeng and also for being in possession of what he said are “fake council documents.”

“I’m to face charges of defamation against the mayor and also a charge for being in possession of fake council documents,” Landjinou told The Journal.

He, however, laughed at the whole thing stating; “That’s not a case to take off sleep from my eyes. We were in an open council session when I made the observations. I reacted as a councillor and as the Fako II section president. If the council is not doing its work, it’s me the party will question. They’ll ask me what I did in the face of such anomalies.”

Quizzed on whether or not he had informed the hierarchy of the CPDM party of the happenings in Muyuka, Landjinou said he’ll inform his party hierarchy only after honouring the summons from the state counsel.

The crux

During the first ordinary session of the Muyuka Council Wednesday, June 10, dedicated to examining 2014 accounts of the council, Landjinou took on the Mayor referring to him as a fraud and a liar for his inability to substantiate on supposed projects completed in the Muyuka municipality.

“There are a lot of things that are not going on right. We have the road, Stone Quarter to Makanga. That road does not exist, but over FCFA 5 million is said to have been spent on the road. You want me to tell you the name of the enterprise?” Landjinou queried.

He continued, “We have the road Sabana Beach. Mr. Mayor, that road was done by Mr. Sabana but you raised a fake voucher for the project you did not do to the tune of over FCFA 4 million. About the sandpit of Malende, the council spent over FCFA 8 million and the voucher number is 0581for Lot 1 and 2. From the evidence that I’ve given, you see that we have a little embezzlement in the construction and rehabilitation of roads. I don’t have a personal problem with the mayor, but we’re in a council session. Let the mayor defend what I’ve said. I have my documents to protect what I’m saying. When I go through my documents, I realise that over 100 million was embezzled. This is money that can be used to convince the population to vote for us in 2018,” Landjinou had said.

When the Mayor took over the floor to respond to the allegations, he worsened matters when he referred to councillors behaving like children.

“We should not come to this august chamber to behave like children. We should behave like adults.” He said.

“I’ll like to know how Councillor Landjinou got these vouchers from the council. It must have come from the council. You don’t draw judgement without investigations. Some of you are here to play; some of us here are serious. Landjinou if you want to make it personal, know that I came to Muyuka because I have this place at heart. Don’t attribute me to misappropriation. God has blessed me. I don’t need to come and misappropriate money here. I did not go to the field most of the time when these roads were being constructed. I rely on information given to me,” Mayor Nkeng said.
