The Minister of Arts and Culture, Ama Tutu Muna, has stated that the Northwest Women's Empowerment Forum, NOWWEF, unites Northwest women and promotes the culture of the Region.

She made the remark on Saturday, April 25, at the Yaounde Conference Centre, while launching the 2015 activities of NOWWEF.

According to Minister Tutu Muna, by launching its 2015 activities, NOWWEF wanted to commune and showcase the culture of the Northwest Region through cultural activities such as choral singing, fashion parade and traditional dances of all the seven Divisions of the Region. The association, the Minister said, has always sought to empower women of all groups.

“It promotes the education of the girl child, adult literacy programmes and capacity building.”

Ama Tutu Muna, who is also ‘Mafor’ and is the Coordinator of NOWWEF, called on members to remain united in the promotion of culture and in designing and implementing community development projects.

Meanwhile, the Secretary General of NOWWEF’s Yaounde Branch, Delphine Anyawo, expressed satisfaction at the colourful presentations of the various groups during the cultural event.

While hoping that NOWWEF’s upcoming 10th anniversary to be commemorated on August 12, 2015, will be celebrated with the same pomp, the SG called on the women to remain united in culture. To her NOWWEF is an association which identifies opportunities for Northwest women and empowers them with proactive leadership skills and decision-making.

“For one thing, the outfit shoulders enormous responsibilities, as far as sourcing for funds through partnership with Government, funding agencies and other stakeholders, is concerned. It networks with all women's organisations and associations at local, national and international levels,” she stated.

Created on August 12, 2005, the apolitical association aims at empowering women of the Northwest Region in all spheres of life in order to foster growth and development in the Region in a bid to alleviate poverty and improve living conditions.

The outfit seeks to enhance, promote and project the image of the Region politically, economically, socially and otherwise. NOWWEF members also organise educative seminars and educational workshops to empower women and support health, paying greater attention to malaria, tuberculosis and HIV/AIDS.
