A new Police Training Centre in Kedjom-Keku (Big Babanki) Mezam Division, will soon go operational, Martin Mbarga Nguele, Cameroon’s Delegate General for National Security has announced.
Mbarga made the statement in Bamenda during a ceremony to award epaulettes to three policemen who exercised bravery in the fight against Boko Haram.
According to the Delegate General, the police training college which is near completion would have long gone operational if not for want of logistics. He attributed the delay to a contractor who did not deliver the project in due time.
Though Mbarga did not give a precise time frame when the college will receive its first set of recruits, he disclosed that the training centre’s dormitories and conference hall have already been completed.
Once operational, the college is going to assist the police training colleges of Mutengene and Yaounde in the training of the country’s law enforcement officers.
Meanwhile, the Delegate was principally in Bamenda to award epaulettes to three policemen who caught Boko Haram agents with explosives intended to be detonated in Bamenda on national day, May 20, 2015.
As a gesture of honour to the policemen for their bravery, the head of state, Paul Biya promoted them to various ranks within the police corps.
Much earlier, the North West Delegate for National Security, Gusmou Emile said he was hinted that Boko Haram members were to detonate a bomb in Bamenda that May 20, and dispatched policemen to investigate. It was in the course of investigations that Gusmou said the policemen caught some people with the explosives and arrested them.
Going by the North West regional security boss, the suspects are currently awaiting trial at the Central Prison in Bamenda.
