The creation of the school was greeted with much fanfare and enthusiasm by inhabitants of Abangoh, Ntaghan and Nacho in the Bamenda I council area who for long have been yearning for the creation of such a school in their locality.
This is because despite belonging to the Bamenda I council area, the quarters concerned are located below the Bamenda Up-station Hills, directly behind Our Lady Of Lourdes College, which itself is in the Bamenda II council area.
For this reason, students living in Abangoh and its environs have hitherto faced enormous difficulties trekking over long distances to attend either Government Bilingual High School, Bamendankwe or Government Bilingual High School Downtown.
Following the creation of the school, many parents who spoke to The Sun expressed thanks to the Head of State, Paul Biya through the minister of secondary education, Louis Bapes Bapes, for heeding to their cries.
In a chat with The Sun on the possible take off of the school, the principal, Sixtus Ndefru pointed out that all efforts have been put in place to ensure that the school takes off as soon as possible.
The first planning meeting took place on the campus of GS Atuakom situated on the slopes of the Abangoh hills. During that meeting the new principal, Sixtus Ndefru told the community leaders and some parents that there is need for all of them to put hand on deck for the school to go operational in the weeks ahead. They all brainstormed on some of the practical take off needs of the school.
Following the meeting, an interim school management structure was put in place after a vote of thanks was sent to the minister. This has been followed by sensitization of the concerned community over the creation of the new school through radio announcements while quarter heads and the Bamendankwe traditional council have also gone to work to inform parents that a new school is now functioning.
A temporary office has also been opened at Nacho junction for students and parents to register. The temporary classrooms of the new school will also be located adjacent GS Abangoh.
As concerned teachers, the principal, Sixtus Ndefru has disclosed that a letter has been written to the minister of secondary education for some teachers to be posted to the school while volunteer teachers who will be supported by the PTA are already taking up positions.
He added as a teacher himself, he will also go to the classroom while waiting for the appointment of other officials as the discipline masters and the bursars.
The principal added that the divisional delegate of secondary education, Munda Mathias is already taking a keen interest in the take off of the school while many students and parents have already shown interest to register in the school which is not expected to have more than 200 students this academic year.
Parents, the principal concluded, are already queuing up to get their children registered.
