North West: Almost 40,000 sit for FSLC

No major incidents were reported on day one of the examination yesterday, June 9, 2015.

Primary Six pupils in the North West Region on June 9, 2015, joined their counterparts nation-wide to write the First School Leaving Certificate, FSLC, examination while their French-speaking counterparts also went in for the ‘Certificat d’Etude Primaire,’ CEP.

Some 39,348 candidates are writing the FSLC in 280 centres, while 651 pupils are writing the CEP in 18 centers across the region. In the whole country, the number of pupils taking the First School Leaving Certificate examination is about 100,000.

While visiting some centres yesterday, June 9, 2015, Cameroon Tribune found out that all was going on well except for Government School Santa where the examination started behind schedule because many pupils arrived late after trekking long distances to examination centres.

At Government School Bamenda Station, the centre head, Eric Mbu Neba, explained that there were three absentees, but that all was going on well. He said his centre accommodates 281 pupils from different schools in Up Station area, adding that all invigilators were present. According to the North West Regional Delegate of Basic Education, Fon Susan, all was put in place to ensure that the examinations go on well.

“We had a meeting with all the Divisional Delegates to ensure that all question scripts got to examination centres on time. As at now, no complaint has come from anywhere that they have not received examinations scripts,” she explained. She added that all the centres visited yesterday morning respected examination rules and there were no major incidents.

Meanwhile, the Inspector of Pedagogy in charge of Educational Technologies from the Ministry of Basic Education, Michael Nkwenti, who visited some schools in Mezam Division yesterday, acknowledged that all was going on well. He appreciated the organised nature of the examination in the region.

On day one, pupils wrote Mathematics Papers I and II, Dictation, Handwriting, Guided Writing and Composition, and English Language Paper II.
