North West region rally against attacks in Far North

The Northwest Region led by its Governor Adolph Lele early Saturday February 7, 2015 staged a solidarity walk in Bamenda in support of the Cameroon army and its Commander-in-Chief President Paul Biya in the fight against the Boko Haram insurgency in the Far North of the country.

Taking off from three different points of the city, thousands assembled on Bamenda's main Commercial Avenue for a brief prayer session.

The march turned out to be a perfect show of political coexistence between the government and the main opposition party in the country– the Social Democratic Front.

The National chairman of the SDF Ni John Fru Ndi speaking to Cameroon Concord's Bakah Derick immediately after the event noted that "there is no politics when it comes to the preservation of peace".

The ageing SDF boss also stressed the need for joined efforts to work for lasting peace by combating Boko Haram. He added that the Government should get the views of both political and civil society leaders in the country in the fight against the Nigerian Islamic sect.

For his part, Northwest Governor Adolph Lele said it was time for everyone to stand against the activities of the Nigerian terrorist group. The march was prompted by the massacre carried out in Fotokol in the Far North region of the country by Boko Haram militants.

It is vital to include in this report that Cameroon’s former Prime Minister and Current Senate Vice President Simon Achidi Achu participated in the solidarity walk.
