Over 15,000 sit GCE in Littoral

The 2016 General Certificate of Education, GCE examinations began on May 30, 2016, with 15,378 candidates in the Littoral Region sitting. Among the lot, 10,909 students are writing the GCE Ordinary Level, while 4,569 are going in for the Advanced Level.

For the Technical GCE that is being undertaken by some 1,255 students, 816 are sitting the Ordinary Level, while 439 are in for the Advanced Level. The 15,378 grammar candidates are spread in some 38 accommodation centres in the region.

The Littoral Regional Delegate for Secondary Education, Emile Yomkil, said due to the lack of accommodation centres in Nkam Division, 14 students from the area were writing in the Moungo Division instead.

In the same light, some 259 candidates from Ocean Division in the South Region are writing in Government Bilingual High School, Bonaberi, Douala.

According to the Regional Delegate, creating an accommodation centre for few students like in Nkam Division is costly; while Douala is nearer to candidates from Ocean Division.

By 7.30 am in Government Bilingual High School, Bonaberi yesterday, candidates had been checked and ushered into various writing halls where invigilators instructed them on the importance of writing their candidate number, centre number and filling their personal information correctly.

In the GBHS Bonaberi Accommodation Centre, which is also host to external candidates and those from the Ocean Division, invigilators urged candidates to read instructions before delving into the questions.

Students during the morning session said they were quite prepared, with an Ordinary Level candidate, Kometa Emmanuel, saying she was confident of making it in Economics, the first subject for the day.
