Maintaining his declaration that the Limbe Festival of Arts and Culture (FESTAC), will be an annual event, the government delegate to the Limbe City Council has announced that plans are underway for the second edition of the event, which will run from April 4-11, 2015.
Motanga Andrew Monjimba, during a meeting on Tuesday, November 25, said after all evaluation meetings, evidence has shown that the maiden edition was quite a success, and presently, they have been empowered to address all the challenges in upcoming editions.
While noting the contributions of all stakeholders in making the event a success, the vision bearer said the main challenge of the last edition was the short time they had to plan the event (six weeks), due to the reunification celebration.
This he said, is the reason why they are already working now for a more smooth process, more than four months to the event.
According to Motanga Andrew, more innovations will be included in this second edition, such as fashion parade, Miss FESTAC contest, choral music evening and a qualitative and quantitative involvement of the community.
He also reiterated the fact that the event enjoys full government backing and support, and that the minister of Arts and Culture, who was unavoidably absent during the maiden edition will be present in the upcoming festival.
“Culture is a rallying force and a tool that can be used to enhance unity, economic and social development; Limbe has cultural diversity and potentials to develop and sell its self in all its diversified assets”.
The government delegate also appreciated the presence of the press during the meeting and urged them to continuously sell the idea to create awareness.
The meeting was attended by a host of stakeholders, including mayors, councillors, delegates, economic operators and others.
