Police hunt "freedom selling" warders

Police in Kumba, Southwest Region have reportedly opened investigations into the case of a notorious thief noted for bribing warders to regain his freedom.

The youngster whose name police sources refused to disclose is said to have fallen into the dragnet of the security in Kumba after buying his freedom with FCFA 200,000 out of detention in Mamfe.

According to police sources, the suspect thief has admitted being the leader of a dreaded gang of thieves operating in the Southwest Region.

Going by our sources, the said thief has multiple names different authentic national identity cards.

Security officials have refused divulging any information to the public as a team of the Rapid Intervention Police force in mufti has been dispatched to the field to ascertain the facts disclosed by the suspect bandit in detention at the Kumba Central Police Station.

A uniform officer who spoke to The Post stated that, if the allegations gathered from the suspect are true, then, the heads of some senior prison authorities and warders involved in the bribe collecting-chain would roll.

When The Post visited the Kumba Central Police Station for more information, the Police Commissioner in charge was not on seat.

Despite recent exploits by the police to clamp down on crime in the Kumba metropolis, the trend of events in the last one week has witnessed an increase in break-in-and-loot activities of bandits.

In addition, incidents of harassment along the streets of the town have gradually resurfaced with women being the highest hit, making K-Town gradually becoming unfriendly again.
