Time has past; exams results have been released now paving the way for the beginning of another new academic year.
The town of Limbe is filled with hustling and bustling as parents and students work hard to meet up with the passage of time as time for school reopening draws near.
Following the recently launched admission program into government schools on Monday August 25 to Friday August 29, 2014, there seemed no way to pass in these schools as parents could be seen working tirelessly to seek admission for their children considering the fact that the length of time allocated for this activity is short.
In response to this trend, The Sun caught up with the principal of Government High School Limbe Mrs. Ayompe Haddassah who said “parents are responding positively to the registration of their children, a situation where we have registered close to 600 students already".
The story too is same with St. Anne Girls School Limbe, where the principal Sister Pamela Bongen told The Sun that, their registration began since June and they have recorded 90 registered cases for new students.
Unlike last year the situation is different because admission was launched at the very opening of the school year causing over crowding in the offices during school hours. Mrs. Ayompe Haddassah confirms this when she says she is happy now that this process has been launched two weeks to the start of the academic year so that they can put every thing in place before classes begin thereby reducing the number of problems they encountered last year.
Prior to the new academic year, new subjects have been added to both the ordinary level and advance level subjects which are Geology, human rights , citizenship and logic for the “o” level and English language for the “A” level. It should be noted that these subjects are going to be implemented this academic year in the classrooms thus there are also going to be written as subjects to the forth coming GCE exams.
Seeing these additions as a challenge, Mr. Songo Victor, principal of Unic secondary school tells The sun that it is indeed a difficult task because they will have to recruit more resource persons for these subjects which may not be an easy task coming across them.
Never the less, parents too have a role to play to for the success of this academic year as Mr. Nganjo Philip said’’ I am a civil servant sponsoring 3 kids in Borden schools. It is really a big project for me preparing these children for school but all the same I do save a portion of my salary every month for their fee. So as for now I have completed their entire first installment fee and I am looking forward to buying their school and dormitory needs so that they can begin school with.
Speaking to The sun, Mrs. Manyi Ursula said she is a business woman with 4 children in government schools and she had long saved money for their fees in their meeting house just waiting for when registration will be launched. As observed in town we hope that the efforts of these parents will not be let down by their children as they struggle to educate them.
Visiting most of the schools around town, campuses have been kept clean with new paintings and the putting up of new structures. With all these in place, it shows that all is set for the new academic year.
