Fifty-year-old Jerome Wirsiy a native of Nso land, Bui Division in the Northwest Region and a retired civil servant from Post and Tele-Communication was found dead in a stream that joins with River Mezam. The corpse was discovered in a stream in Mullang neighbourhood Bamenda, some 2km away from his house at Below Foncha Street on July 23, 2014.
The Post gathered from Adison Wirngo, Jerome’s nephew that he left home on Saturday night July 19, at around 10:30pm. “We were watching television that night when he removed his phone, identity card, money and placed them on the table and went outside, It was after 30minutes that we discovered he was not back and was no where to be found around the compound. We started looking for him by 11pm,” Adison explained.
Four days later, Wednesday, July 23, four fishermen who were carrying out fishing activities in the stream reported to the family that, they had found the body of the deceased. On July 24, the corpse was retrieved by the Northwest Army Rescue unit, together with the fishermen following orders from the Bamenda City Council.
In an interview with reporters, Michael Kinga, Jerome’s best friend revealed that, “Jerome was a very good and trusted friend who had lived a good life. We are surprised at his sudden death,” Kinga said regrettably. Investigations into his death is ongoing.
