SIL Cameroon reviews 2014 activities

The Summer Institute of Linguistics in Cameroon, SIL, which is concerned with language development, bible translations and capacity building has reviewed its 2014 annual report.

The session that took place this Wednesday 2nd September 2015 in Yaounde was chaired by the Director General of SIL Cameroon, Bert Vesser.

Reviewing the activities carried out by the non-governmental organisation, Mr Bert Vesser noted with satisfaction that the Cameroon partners in language development in 2014 offered consultation, training and language development in eight regions of the country.

According to him, SIL Cameroon in 2014 introduced 21 training courses that coached and monitored SIL personnel and language partners in leadership, translation that has greatly extended the linguistic background of Cameroon.

Forty-Five years old in Cameroon, the Language partners for development have trained thousands of Cameroonians to read and write their mother tongue.

Within this period, 15 complete Bibles and 62 New Testaments have been translated into Cameroonian languages, along with many standardised languages.

In 2014 SIL cooperated with national researchers to complete dictionaries in the Langwan, Mambai and Ngiemboon languages amongst others.

It is worth noting that, the organisation has been operating in some African countries notably Equatorial Guinea in which 92 training courses have been introduced accompanied by the translation of the bible to the nine local languages spoken in the region.
