It was with euphoria that men, women, young and elderly persons in Mpondo Balong village in Muyuka sub division received for the first time in 100 years, electricity.

School children sang, dance groups performed and old women forgot their old age and dance on. The ceremony to officially hand over the project to the villagers was presided by the Muyuka Council mayor, NKENG Michael, initiator of the huge project.

For the past 100 years since creation of the village, the people have never had electricity and have been using bush lamps. The people have been told to register their names on the village list in order to receive connection soonest.

Most villages in Cameroon have not been electrified, absence of farm to market roads, pipe bone water among others. The problem of electricity in Cameroon has reached its acme.

ENEO officials claim that the situation is now worse because of the proliferation of industries.
