Six die in car accident in Essazok

A Coaster bus belonging to Caravane Travel Agency and a Toyota Corolla collided head-on along the Yaounde-Mbalmayo highway yesterday November 1, 2015.

Six people; five adults and one baby have lost their lives in a fatal car accident at Essazok a locality along the Yaounde-Mbalmayo highway yesterday November 1, 2015. A Coaster bus belonging to Caravane Travel Agency and a Toyota Corolla are reported to have had a head-on collision.

Movement was brought to a halt for four hours following the accident. When Cameroon Tribune reporters got to Ekoko1 locality, they had to trek for about a kilometre to reach the scene of the accident as the road was blocked by the fire fighting brigade, gendarmes and police who were busy at work.

Eyewitness reports say, the accident occurred at about 2:30 p.m. due to high speed. According to officers of the Gendarmerie Brigade in Nkolnda (Yaounde), the Caravane Coaster bus was heading for Yaounde, while the overloaded Toyota Corolla without a registration number was on its way to Mbalmayo. Our source said the bus driver on a high speed attempted to over-take when the two vehicles collided head-on.

All the passengers of the Toyota Corolla are reported to have died on the spot. According to our source, the accident left six people dead and several wounded. The wounded were immediately rushed to the hospital in Yaounde while the remains of deceased were equally transferred to the mortuary in Yaounde. Investigations are going on to find out the cause of the accident.
