Farmers are gnashing their teeth as almost all their crops have been blown down. The population of Buea and environs has gone through an unenviable weekend following heavy rainfall accompanied by strong wind. Hardest hit are farmers whose cultivated such crops as plantains and bananas, as their crops have been destroyed by the storm.
Apart from the destructive effects on farmers, electric poles and trees have also suffered from the wrath of the storm. Power outages were reported in many parts of Buea, Mutengene, Limbe and Tiko. It is even customary in Buea that the first drops of rainfall immediately send electrical power off.
Experts blame these recurrent storms on climate change. For two consecutive nights: Saturday breaking Sunday and Sunday breaking Monday, inhabitants have been quacking on their beds, fearing the unknown. "I was shivering with fear on my bed and thought the roof of my house would give way," an inhabitant of Small Soppo told CT.
Meanwhile, two households in Bomaka saw their roofs blown off while they were asleep. At Quarter Five-Bomaka, Mr. Martin's family awoke to a more grievous incident where his makeshift wooden house was carried away in the early morning yesterday.
